I was born in Michigan, but I’ll always consider myself a Hoosier.  That’s because my family moved there when I was just two, and my mom and dad are still in Indiana.

I went to Trinity Lutheran Elementary School, Concord Jr. High and High School (all in Elkhart, IN), two years at Indiana University, and earned my Bachelor’s at Concordia College, Ann Arbor, MI.  Then it was off to study to be a pastor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

While serving my vicarage / internship in Dallas, TX, I met the love of my life, Kathy Phillips.  We became man and wife on June 16, 1990 (it’s been fantastic ever since).  We are blessed with two wonderful children: Rebekah and Jacob.  We are our own “core four” – we just love it when all four of us are able to spend time together.

Things I enjoy during my free time include watching movies, golf, and mowing the yard (yes, I really enjoy it).  I’m also a diehard Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football fan.

One more thing I greatly enjoy – the ministry.  It is such a privilege and honor to serve the God who loves us so much.  To believe and know what our God does for us, how Jesus gave HIS life for us – what a gift!

Pastor Eric Jay is a Southern California native, having just received the call to St Mark this past August 2017.

Pastor Jay graduated with a Master's in Theology and Culture as a student of St Louis Seminary via the Cross Cultural Ministry Pastoral Certification Program (CMC) located at Concordia University in Irvine, California.  The CMC focuses uniquely upon equipping students and future pastors to infiltrate strategic urban settings as church planters.  As such, Pastor Jay spent the first 3 years after graduation pastoring The Gathering; a church plant of which Pastor Jay was founder.  In October 2012 Pastor Jay received his first formal call to St John's Lutheran Church in El Segundo, Ca whereupon he was also ordained.

After accepting St Mark's call in August 2017, Pastor Jay preceded his wife Sarah and daughter Elizabeth who later joined him, moving to Omaha this past September.  With degrees in Music Performance, both Eric and Sarah love music (they met and married while attending the Chapman Conservatory of the Arts), the arts and the outdoors in their spare time...that is whenever they are not joyfully busy with little "Lizzy".

He also was blessed to have the opportunity to compete on Concordia’s nationally recognized Cross Country and Track programs. He served a year-long internship to become a Director of Christian Education (DCE) at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianola, IA before taking the call to become the DCE at St. Mark. During his spare time, Casey enjoys meeting new people, listening to music (Garth Brooks and Newsboys are two big favorites), seeing a good movie and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs!

I have been our Director of Music Ministries since 1997. I am currently tasked with music preparation for our 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM worship services. I help plan the service outlines in consultation with the pastors. Then I gather the music and the musical forces for these services. I direct the Adult Choir (for our 8:00 service) and occasionally round up a men's choir, handbell choir or various groups of instrumentalists or vocalists to enrich our worship. I play organ and piano for many of our services. I work with our other organist, Glenda Bock and our Children’s Choir director Vivian Kesar as they prepare music for worship. I often help out with VBS music and Preschool music. You'll see my monthly updates on music ministry in our Messenger newsletter.

I am married to Vivian and we have 4 children, Natalie, Ethan, Avery and Jonah. Vivian and I both come from Michigan (although from opposite sides of the state) and have family still there. We both attended Concordia College in Ann Arbor Michigan. I taught high school choirs and religion in Milwaukee and Queens, New York before coming to Omaha. My theme verse for ministry is Psalm 119:54 Your decrees are the theme of my song, wherever I lodge.
