St. Mark is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which was organized in 1847 when a group of German-American Lutherans joined together to form a new church body. From the beginning, its purpose has been to proclaim the "Good News" that Jesus Christ is the world's Savior from sin. The Synod has grown from twelve congregations in 1847 to over 6,000 today, and is divided into 35 North American districts with some 2.7 million baptized members. Presently, the Synod is spreading the Gospel in over 30 countries throughout the world.
St. Mark is a part of the Nebraska District, which includes all of the state except the western panhandle. The congregation has grown rapidly to over 1,600 members and has been proclaiming God's Word in northwest Omaha since 1956.
Central to the teaching of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod is the emphasis on salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The gift of salvation is ours through God's forgiveness of our sins which we receive through God's Word and the Sacraments — Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Committed to the belief that God's Word is to be the only source for the church's teachings, we believe that the Bible is God's gift to His people so that they might know Jesus as their Savior.
